|Another scene from the Betpak dala region of Kazakhstan. Here we see a Kazakh berkutchi at full gallop having released his berkut in pursuit of a wolf.
Risky Attack indeed, although the mighty berkut’s did tackle and subdue the wolves of their area it was not a one sided attack. Many experienced berkuts fell victim to their quarry and today few berkutchi will risk a fair flight at wolf. Much depended on how quick the riders were able to assist the berkut once contact with a wolf was made.
Note the saiga horn tied to the glove, this is used to kill the fox or wolf instead of a knife.
