After Thunderstorm
(Pointer and Great Snipe)

This is an evocative image for me especially as Vadim gives you the anticipated view from the Great Snipes (Gallinago media) hiding place. The pointer is transfixed with the scent and the hunter readies himself for the flush. All the while the weather has been showery and a bigger thunderstorm is approaching.
The Great Snipe Gallinago media, is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List Category 2008. It breeds primarily in Russia and migrates to southern Africa. Its main threat comes from habitat loss and destruction through drainage and agriculture in its breeding grounds and through some hunting.
It is thought that climate change could have the most devastating effect on this species in the future.
